The operation, which took place at the dock of the Dársena de Anaga, began around 12:30 PM and was performed by ESK, S.A. A total of 600 MWh of LNG was supplied using two tanker trucks, achieving a pumping rate of 700 liters per minute.
This new Truck to Ship (TTS) and Multi Truck to Ship (MTTS) modality complements the port's prior experience with Ship to Ship (STS) supply, broadening the fuel bunkering options for vessels and adapting to various operational needs.
The implementation of this alternative supply method responds to Baleària's requirement for its eco-efficient vessels and reinforces the port's commitment to sustainability, innovation, and energy transition in maritime transport.
The successful launch was the result of coordinated efforts between the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Baleària, ESK, and other involved agents, who defined and validated safe and efficient procedures, including risk analysis and emergency protocols.
The ferry Mercedes Pinto, measuring 123 meters in length and capable of carrying 1,200 passengers and 425 vehicles, reaches speeds of 35 knots and is Baleària's twelfth vessel equipped with dual-fuel engines designed to run on natural gas and biogas, a CO₂-neutral fuel.
