Over 15,000 Attendees Mark Success of LVIII San Marcos Pilgrimage in Tegueste

The celebration, a benchmark of Canarian traditions, featured significant participation of carts, wagons, and boats, highlighting community involvement.

The town of Tegueste hosted the LVIII Pilgrimage in honor of San Marcos Evangelista this Sunday, drawing over 15,000 people and reaffirming its role as a beacon of popular Canarian traditions.

The festive day, which has become one of the most significant events on the local calendar, attracted a large crowd, according to estimates from security and emergency forces. The program began at 11:30 AM with a solemn Eucharist, followed by the procession of the image of San Marcos Evangelista.
The procession was led by the mayor of Tegueste and the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, along with local council members and other authorities. The pilgrimage was notable for the participation of 26 carts, 5 wagons, and 4 boats, in addition to the flower dance, livestock, and various folk groups from the Archipelago.

The mayor of Tegueste emphasized the pilgrimage's importance as a living expression of identity, where devotion, popular culture, and community cohesion converge. Participants in the pilgrimage, including various carts and boats, showcased community work and commitment to preserving these customs.
A special security and emergency operation, comprising over 200 personnel from Civil Protection, Guardia Civil, Local Police, and Canarian Police, ensured the smooth running of the event and the safety of all attendees. The Tegueste City Council has expressed gratitude for the work of all involved in the operation.
The celebrations in Tegueste will continue with the traditional Day of the Carretero, scheduled for Monday, April 27. Starting at 12:00 PM, the carts that participated in the pilgrimage will be displayed on La Audiencia street, allowing the public to appreciate the craftsmanship and passion behind this unique Canarian tradition.
