The El Pescador Neighborhood Association has formally requested the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council to reinstate bonfires for the San Juan night celebration in the village of San Andrés.

The citizen group aims to revive this tradition, which was restricted in the municipality years ago due to safety concerns. The request has been submitted to the Security department of the Santa Cruz council, seeking the necessary permits to light bonfires in a specific section of the El Cercado ravine, between the Castillo de San Andrés and the bridge.
The association recalls that the City Council previously imposed restrictions, prohibiting bonfires in areas like Las Teresitas beach and requiring authorization and control for their lighting elsewhere. "Understanding that it is a tradition that should not be lost and is perfectly compatible with safety," the El Pescador Association has decided to request permission, limiting the area to a single space and submitting civil liability insurance along with the petition.
Should they receive municipal authorization, the association plans to organize a competition to encourage residents' participation in the San Juan festivities.
