The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has approved the awarding of a contract to install a smart system that will provide real-time information on parking availability, aiming to reduce traffic congestion in the city.

The Governing Board of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has given the green light to the awarding of a contract valued at 435,186.57 euros. This project, granted to the company Kapsch Trafficcom Transportation SAU, primarily aims to alleviate traffic congestion caused by drivers searching for parking in the capital.
The system, with an implementation period of six months, will combine physical street infrastructure with digital tools. This will allow both residents and visitors to know the availability of spaces in public and private car parks in real time.
A key component of this initiative will be the installation of ten variable information electronic panels. These devices will be strategically placed at the entrances to the city center and on roads connecting to peripheral neighborhoods, acting as dynamic guides that will display the exact number of free spaces in participating car parks before drivers enter high-congestion areas. Additionally, internal reinforcement panels will be added along main communication routes to facilitate decision-making while driving.
Complementing the physical infrastructure, the City Council will launch a mobile application. This tool will centralize parking offerings and provide additional functionalities such as route indications to the nearest available parking space, detailed consultation of updated rates and schedules, and the possibility of integration with payment systems to streamline management.

"This action is a step towards offering real-time information that facilitates access to parking and improves the experience of those who travel through the capital."

With the awarding of this contract, Santa Cruz de Tenerife begins the implementation of a centralized digital platform. On this platform, car park operators will constantly upload their occupancy data, transforming the search for parking into a digitized and direct process.
