The initial tests for the mobile application designed for taxi requests in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will be carried out in November. This information was communicated during the Taxi Board meeting held at the City Council. The date, originally set for August, has been postponed, meaning citizens will have to wait a little longer to use this new tool.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez indicated that during the meeting, progress on ongoing projects was reviewed and next steps were planned with the sector. Progress is being made in processing aid for adapted vehicles and security systems, the taxi stand network will be improved, and the incorporation of new professionals will be facilitated.
Councilwoman Gladis de León stated that new lines of work are being explored to increase licenses for people with reduced mobility (PMR), study improvements in subsidies, and analyze aspects such as future fares and the sector's sustainable mobility.
Representatives from the sector have requested an increase in the current aid for PMR licenses, which stands at 3,000 euros. The possibility of collaborating with the Cabildo to promote more PMR licenses and meet the 5% requirement was opened. A potential agreement with the La Laguna City Council was also proposed for PMR taxis to operate in both municipalities. 127 applications have been received for security camera aid.
Furthermore, it was agreed to study an adjustment of operating hours at taxi stands to allow these spaces to be shared with general citizen parking. The Taxi Board also addressed the aptitude tests for obtaining the municipal taxi driver's permit, with 45 applications received to date. The City Council has postponed the exams to the first half of September.
