The initiative, with an estimated budget of 3.2 million euros, aims to give greater prominence to pedestrians and outdoor terraces in this iconic part of the capital. The local government is currently negotiating the necessary funding with the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo de Tenerife.
To mitigate the reduction of parking spaces, estimated at about 15 civil-use spots, the council will set up a temporary parking lot on the site of the former Isla del Mar terrace and adjacent land. This new space will offer nearly 250 spots available 24 hours a day.
The construction work is planned in two phases with a total duration of 18 months. Local authorities have guaranteed that market operations will not be interrupted at any time, coordinating the work with the cooperative to avoid disruptions during high-traffic periods such as the Christmas season.
