The program will include works by Prokofiev, Smetana, and Mendelssohn, exploring key pieces of European chamber music from the 19th and 20th centuries. The performance will feature Simon Roturier and Marlene Ito (violins); Naoko Shimizu and Macarena Pesutic (violas); and Ludwig Quandt (cello).
The evening will open with Sergei Prokofiev's String Quartet No. 2 in F major, Op. 92, composed during World War II, which blends rhythmic drive and formal clarity with influences from Caucasian folklore.
Following this, Bedřich Smetana's Quartet No. 1 in E minor, 'From My Life' will be performed, offering an intimate and autobiographical testament where the viola plays a particularly significant and expressive role.
The concert will conclude with Felix Mendelssohn's String Quintet in B-flat major, Op. 87, a masterpiece of German Romanticism admired for its contrapuntal elegance and lyrical breadth.
