The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council will implement a new exclusive lane for buses and taxis on Fomento street, near the Intercambiador, with the aim of optimizing traffic flow and reducing congestion.

This initiative, promoted by the Department of Mobility and Universal Accessibility, will cover approximately 150 meters of roadway. Its purpose is to segregate bus and taxi traffic from general traffic, which is also expected to benefit private vehicles heading to the commercial area of Tres de Mayo.
The new traffic corridor will manage a significant portion of the urban and interurban routes departing from the Intercambiador and continuing towards the roundabout near El Corte Inglés. The separation of public transport will allow buses and taxis to proceed in a reserved space, avoiding delays caused by traffic accessing commercial centers or seeking parking in the area.
The Councilor for Mobility and Universal Accessibility, Evelyn Alonso, highlighted that the approximately 150-meter project will improve traffic flow for both public and private transport. Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez framed the measure within the municipal strategy to enhance the efficiency of public transport in high-traffic areas.
This development is part of other efforts by the City Council to modernize the capital's public transport, including the upcoming acquisition of 61 new buses (40 hybrid, 17 electric, and 4 other technologies), with an investment of nearly 30 million euros. Improving stop accessibility, especially for people with reduced mobility, is also a priority.
