Rocío Rodríguez Rodríguez, from the El Socorro neighborhood, was among the women recognized at the 4th edition of the 2026 Mujer de Hoy Awards. The event, organized by the Tourism Initiatives and Development Center (CIT) of Northeast Tenerife, took place at the historic Leal Theatre in San Cristóbal de La Laguna.
A mother of two and an employee of the Canary Islands Government's Ministry of Education, where she works at a teacher training center, Rodríguez was honored for a career distinguished by effort, perseverance, and a deep commitment to the traditions of Tegueste.
Her connection to Tegueste is particularly linked to the El Socorro neighborhood and the Hermandad de Nuestra Señora del Socorro (Confraternity of Our Lady of Socorro), where she serves as senior sister. In this role, she has actively maintained the ties to the municipality's traditions and a significant part of its identity.
On a personal level, Rocío credits the influence of the women in her family—her great-grandmother, grandmother, and mother. From each, she learned different lessons, but most importantly, she inherited a life philosophy based on strength, resilience, and the fight for what she believes is important.
During the gala, Rocío Rodríguez was accompanied by the mayor of Tegueste, Norberto Padilla, the Councilor for Tourism, Roberto Díaz, and the Councilor for Equality, Maura Martel. Their presence underscored the Tegueste City Council's support for this tribute and the trajectory of the local resident.
The Mujer de Hoy Awards, promoted by the CIT of Northeast Tenerife, aim to recognize and highlight the careers, talent, perseverance, and legacy of women who have become role models in the region and across the Canary Islands.
The Tegueste City Council extends its congratulations and recognition to Rocío Rodríguez Rodríguez, valuing not only her professional career and commitment to the municipality but also the role of many women who, through their families, work, and communities, keep traditions alive and contribute to building the present and future of Tegueste.
