The Ministry of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood, and Families, through the Directorate General of Youth, has approved the allocation of €1,984,440 to facilitate the first work experience for 61 young people across the Canary Islands. These one-year contracts will be carried out within public and social interest projects managed by 32 entities.
Selected young individuals, who must possess university degrees or vocational training and lack prior work experience, will undertake tasks aligned with their qualifications. The projects encompass areas such as the environment, culture, mental health, disability support, inclusion, and youth well-being, alongside programs for labor insertion and prevention of gender-based violence.
This initiative is co-financed, up to a maximum of 85%, by the European Social Fund Plus. The Minister of Social Welfare, Candelaria Delgado, emphasized that the measure "favors the entry into the labor market for qualified young people who will receive a decent salary appropriate to their training, and promotes the development of public and social interest projects also aimed at our youth."
For his part, the Director General of Youth, Daniel Morales, explained that the hiring process is managed through the beneficiary entities, but the selection of young people is carried out by the Canary Islands Employment Service (SCE). It is essential to be registered as a job seeker and within the Youth Guarantee System.
The requirements for the training contracts include being between 18 and 29 years old, residing in the Islands, being unemployed, registered with the SCE and the National Youth Guarantee System, and holding a university degree or a vocational training degree (intermediate or higher level), or officially recognized equivalent qualifications.
The beneficiary entities will be responsible for selecting the personnel, submitting a job offer to the Canary Islands Employment Service. The training contracts will have a duration of 12 months and will be on a full-time basis, facilitating the acquisition of professional experience appropriate to the level of study.
