This distinction, awarded by the European Foundation for Environmental Education, certifies the beach's excellence in aspects such as water cleanliness, the presence of safety measures for emergencies, and the availability of basic services. Arinaga thus solidifies its position as one of the 15 beaches honored with this award.
The mayor of Agüimes, Óscar Hernández, and the Councilor for Parks, Gardens, and Beaches, Juani Martel, were responsible for hoisting the flag in the Los Barquillos area, near the lifeguard station. Both officials expressed their satisfaction with this achievement, which underscores the commitment to quality and accessibility.
“"The importance of citizen collaboration in obtaining the blue flag is essential, as the civility and responsibility of users are fundamental to maintaining quality standards."
The Blue Flag award also recognizes the surveillance, rescue, and lifeguard service, which operates from June 15 to September 15 along the municipal coastline. This team includes 12 lifeguards, along with personnel from the Local Police and Civil Protection.
Other criteria considered include accessibility for people with reduced mobility, waste management through selective collection, and environmental awareness activities. In Arinaga, the latter are carried out via information panels along the maritime avenue and awareness campaigns about the value of marine ecosystems.
The municipal Beaches department has called on users to continue contributing to the care of the coastal environment, thereby maintaining the beach's optimal conditions.
