During his appearance, Toledo responded to questions from the Secretary of Organization of the PSOE of Canarias, Nira Fierro, who questioned the reliability of RTVC's audience data. Fierro highlighted the "fine print" in the methodology, which measures an "accumulated by islands," and requested details on the formula used.
The socialist deputy inquired about how the average program share is calculated, asking if it is based on the sum of viewers watching for at least one minute, divided by the broadcast time. She also expressed concern about drastic fluctuations in program audience, which can drop from 18.5% to 0% in minutes, and asked if this issue had been analyzed.
“"There are samples that are not correctly done, and it only takes one device to disconnect for the entire average to change."
Toledo acknowledged that some samples "are not correctly done" and that the disconnection of a single audiometer can significantly alter the average. He assured that the company responsible for the measurement is being urged to resolve these issues. Fierro, for her part, emphasized that these sudden variations occur "without an event that would cause people to tune in" and that it is a frequent situation across various programs.
Despite the technical problems, Toledo stressed that the priority is to "understand the Canarian audience," beyond monthly fluctuations. He stated that RTVC aims to be "close to the citizenry" and meet the expectations of a public television. He highlighted that, without complacency, the channel has advanced in recent months, positioning itself as the most-watched public television in the Canary Islands and the third option compared to private broadcasters, climbing from seventh to fourth position among regional televisions.
Finally, the general administrator of RTVC accepted that an increase in audience "does not necessarily have to be a consequence of my management, but rather of an infinite number of conditioning factors."
