Vocational Training in the Canary Islands will increase its offerings to over 52,000 places for the next academic year, incorporating 184 new cycles and an innovative dual degree model.

The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Ministry of Education, has announced a significant expansion of its Vocational Training (FP) offerings for the 2026-27 academic year. This expansion includes 4,500 new places, bringing the total to over 52,000, and the introduction of 184 new training cycles.
The Minister of Education, Poli Suárez, and the Deputy Minister of Vocational Training, Francisco Rodríguez Machado, presented these developments, highlighting a new dual degree model that will allow students to obtain two qualifications in three years. This model, which includes eight combinations, aims for greater labor market integration, addressing the high youth unemployment rate in the archipelago.

"This was not available anywhere, in fact, no other autonomous community has it."

Among the innovations, an online platform has been launched to centralize all FP information for students, teachers, and companies. This digital tool facilitates the consultation of training offerings and allows companies to contact centers to request specific profiles. Furthermore, the Vocational Training map in the Canary Islands has been updated, after more than 30 years without revision, with the goal of “insularizing” the offer and adapting it to the needs of each island and area.
The offerings are diversified with qualifications in chemistry, security, environment, and funeral services. Basic FP will be extended to all institutes in the archipelago with at least three secondary school groups. Adapted FP has also been strengthened, and new qualifications have been incorporated into the virtual modality, such as the Personal Image cycle and second-year courses in Multiplatform Application Development and Web Application Development, following the success of the virtual modality in the Equality cycle.
The intensive dual modality, starting from the second year of studies, is another pillar of this strategy. It allows between 700 and 1,000 hours of the cycle to be completed within a company, offering an alternating training contract with tax benefits for businesses. This initiative seeks to support the productive sector and reduce youth unemployment, doubling the number of companies collaborating with FP, which has increased from 2,500 to 5,000 since the beginning of the legislature.
