The Department of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands has formally received the implementation work for the future Canary Islands Land Transport Operators Registry and its dashboard. This reception marks the beginning of the regulatory process for its operation.
This initiative is part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR), financed by European «NextGenerationEU» funds. The project has enabled the migration of information from the island councils (cabildos) to the new system, preparing it for launch once the relevant regulations are approved.
The Director General of Transport and Mobility, María Fernández, highlighted that this tool, established by the Canary Islands Road Transport Organization Law of 2007, is essential to "provide greater safety and efficiency to land transport management in the islands." The registry will unify sector information, benefiting both companies and administrations.
The Canarian Executive will continue working with the cabildos to ensure interoperability and automate data exchange. The goal is to strengthen administrative coordination and guarantee information quality for more agile and efficient management of transport and mobility in the Canary Islands.
The Canary Islands Land Transport Operators Registry, established by Law 13/2007, will have a declarative purpose for registering relevant data on the size and evolution of road transport modes and sub-sectors. It will provide a unique database to improve planning and decision-making, promoting the digitalization of public management.
