This amount represents a 15.58% increase, equivalent to €956,931.69, compared to the previous call. Modifications to the bases have allowed for an increase in the budget for ten sub-measures of the program, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food Sovereignty.
The purpose of these aids is to compensate for the additional costs arising from Canary Islands' status as an Outermost Region, aiming to promote the competitiveness of sector companies and professionals against operators in the rest of the European Union (EU).
The call for the 2024 campaign received 122 applications, covering over 21,000 tons of fishery and aquaculture products. The subsidies cover the production of 20,568 tons that met the requirements, benefiting aquaculture, industrial fishing, and artisanal fishing.
The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food Sovereignty, Narvay Quintero, highlighted that these measures are a "fundamental instrument to guarantee competitiveness" and compensate for the additional costs borne by professionals due to the remoteness and territorial fragmentation. He recalled that the previous government had only resolved the 2020 campaign, while the current department has brought the 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 calls up to date.
