The Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands has officially published the definitive list of educational centers that are consolidating as benchmarks in quality and innovation across the archipelago. This selection highlights the best public schools in the Canary Islands for their impact, alternative methodologies, and coexistence projects.
On June 16, the island of La Gomera will host the institutional gala for the delivery of the Educational Excellence Badges for the 2025-2026 school year. The event, presided over by the minister Poli Suárez, will bring together delegations from the 11 selected centers from six islands. The awarded learning models deliberately move away from traditional memorization, promoting reasoning, linguistic immersion, digital coexistence, affective-sexual health, and the protection of Canarian heritage.
These centers have transformed their physical and pedagogical spaces to respond to the demands of contemporary society. Among the awardees are the CEIP Cristóbal García Blairzy in Fuerteventura, recognized for its policies on equity and inclusion; the EEI Almirante Antequera in Tenerife, highlighted for its focus on Linguistic Communication Competence; and the CEIP Los Quintana in Gran Canaria, a benchmark in mathematical competence and robotics.
Innovation and multilingualism also mark excellence in classrooms such as those at CEIP Los Tarahales and IES Doramas, both in Gran Canaria, which promote intercultural education and coeducation, respectively. IES José Zerpa (Gran Canaria) stands out for its pedagogical leadership and participatory culture, while CEIP Puntagorda (La Palma) demonstrates that size does not limit educational ambition, connecting learning with the local community.
Other recognized centers include CEIP Guiguan in Lanzarote, which focuses its teaching on island identity and Canarian heritage; CEIP Almácigo in Tenerife, for its conscious application of technology; CEIP San Sebastián in La Gomera, focused on coeducation and equality; and IES Benito Pérez Armas in Tenerife, which prioritizes the mental and emotional health of students.
