The Government of the Canary Islands has issued an official warning regarding the high temperature episode starting this Sunday, July 5, which increases the risk of forest fires across the archipelago.

Given the situation, authorities have requested that citizens avoid any activity that could spark a fire. This includes prohibiting the disposal of cigarette butts, matches, or waste in wooded areas, as well as the use of pyrotechnic devices in high-risk zones, agricultural land, or residential areas near forest mass.
The executive recommends maintaining safety strips free of dry vegetation around homes and plots. Furthermore, it urges compliance with access restrictions to forest areas and work limitations that may be established by island councils and municipalities while the risk persists.
Regarding health, it is advised to avoid physical exercise during the hottest hours of the day, stay in cool places, hydrate frequently, and protect against the sun. Special attention should be paid to children and the elderly, and those on medication should consult a doctor to check if it affects body temperature regulation.
