The Annual Labor Cost Survey published by the National Statistics Institute (INE) places the average salary in the islands at 23,264 euros per year. This figure contrasts sharply with the national average, which stood at 28,411 euros, and the 28,742 euros recorded in the Balearic Islands.
This trend has remained constant since the end of the health crisis, despite the tourism sector achieving three consecutive years of historic records in visitor arrivals. Tourism currently accounts for 37.5% of the regional GDP and is the main private employer in the archipelago.
Regarding labor costs for companies, the Canary Islands are positioned as one of the territories where hiring is most affordable. The average net labor cost in the islands was 32,017 euros in 2025, surpassing only Extremadura, which recorded 31,657 euros.
Conversely, the regions with the highest net labor costs during the last fiscal year were the Community of Madrid, with 45,983 euros, the Basque Country, with 44,034 euros, and the Chartered Community of Navarre, with 41,697 euros.
