The Canary Islands Statistics Institute (ISTAC) has released its Contributory Pensions Statistics for July, revealing an increase in the number of beneficiaries and the average amount of benefits in the archipelago. A total of 382,400 people received a contributory pension, representing a 2.6% rise compared to the same month in 2025. The average amount for these pensions stood at 1,252.3 euros, an increase of 4.8% from the previous year.
Retirement pensions, the most common type, were received by 217,200 individuals in the Canary Islands, 6,000 more than in July 2025. The average amount for this benefit was 1,456.3 euros, showing a 4.5% growth. These pensions are granted to those who have contributed sufficiently throughout their working lives.
Secondly, widowhood pensions benefit 84,000 people in the Canary Islands, with a monthly average of 919.9 euros. The number of beneficiaries has grown by 0.5% over the past year, while the average amount has increased by 4.4%.
A total of 62,300 individuals receive permanent disability pensions, marking a 6.3% increase compared to 2025, making it the benefit with the largest rise in the number of recipients. The average monthly amount is 1,198.3 euros, 3.6% more than a year ago.
Finally, 18,900 people receive survivor and dependent pensions, with an average amount of 563.3 euros per month. Although the number of beneficiaries has decreased by 1% annually, the average amount has grown by 5.6%.
