One year before the 2027 municipal and autonomous elections, Canary Islands parties have begun activating their internal structures and defining electoral strategies.

The main parties in the Canary Islands have already set their electoral machinery in motion for the May 2027 elections. Although the formal pre-campaign has not yet begun, Coalición Canaria (CC) and the Popular Party (PP) are emerging as the most advanced in their internal processes. CC is working on defining its electoral program, while the PP has established its regional committee and is progressing in the formation of insular and local bodies.
Nueva Canarias (NC) has initiated a territorial reorganization following its last congress, and Podemos has activated its roadmap through assemblies. The PSOE, for its part, will hold its federal committee at the end of June, although there are already movements at the island level, such as the willingness of the general secretary in Tenerife, Tamara Raya, to lead the list for the Cabildo.
In CC, the Organization Secretary, David Toledo, emphasizes the priority of the project over names, with the approval of the campaign operation and the opening of the candidacy procedure. Lists are expected to be defined in October or November, once the electoral program, which will include key issues such as the residency law and regional financing, is consolidated. The leadership of Fernando Clavijo remains the main reference.
The PP, through its campaign coordinator in the islands, Carlos Ester, takes for granted that Manuel Domínguez will be the regional candidate, calling him "irreplaceable." The party is advancing in the establishment of campaign committees at the regional, insular, and local levels, expecting to have the entire structure ready in a few weeks to face both the 2027 elections and a possible early general election.
Meanwhile, Podemos seeks to form a "coalition" of left-wing forces with Izquierda Unida and Sumar, open to the participation of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) and other municipalist forces. The goal is to present a progressive alternative against conservative policies. Primero Canarias, a splinter from NC, will run for the first time and is exploring a national coalition with CC.
Nueva Canarias has also activated its internal calendar, focusing on the renewal of local and insular bodies and the subsequent list preparation, under the leadership of Luis Campos, whom they describe as "the main voice of the opposition."
The leadership of Ángel Víctor Torres in the PSOE, despite his role as minister, remains a key reference, especially after the socialist victory in the last elections. The PP, for its part, focuses its discourse on citizen "weariness" with the central government of Pedro Sánchez, while CC claims the independence of its decisions and the development of its project "independently" in the islands, without "bosses in Madrid."
The configuration of the regional list will be another key point. CC has not yet decided the constituency for its presidential candidate, while NC confirms its participation in all insular constituencies and the Canary Islands national list.
