Canary Islands Start 2026/2027 School Year with Staggered Calendar

The return to classrooms will be phased by educational stages, beginning September 9th with Early Childhood and Primary Education and extending until late January for other studies.

The 2026/2027 school year in the Canary Islands commences next Wednesday, September 9th, with a phased return to classrooms that will extend until late January for some courses.

The initial phase of the return to classrooms will affect students in Early Childhood and Primary Education, who will resume their classes on September 9th. According to the official calendar, this progressive start aims to organize the reintegration of students across different educational stages.
The following day, September 10th, will mark the beginning for students in Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO), as well as for Basic Adult Education, Mentor Classrooms, and Level I Basic Computer Skills courses.
Students in 1st and 2nd year of Bachillerato (Baccalaureate), and Bachillerato studies for Adults, will start their classes on September 11th. Subsequently, on September 14th, it will be the turn for direct access courses to Intermediate and Higher Vocational Training Cycles.
The calendar's organization continues on September 16th with the start of Vocational Training Programs and various artistic, sports, and language courses. This includes Adapted Vocational Training pathways, Basic, Intermediate, and Higher Vocational Training cycles, Elementary and Professional Music Education, Plastic Arts and Design cycles, and Sports Education.
On September 21st, participants in That’s English! will join, along with those preparing for access tests to Vocational Training Cycles, the free GESO exam, and Special Regime Language Education.
The calendar also anticipates other start dates throughout the academic year. On October 13th, the sociocultural knowledge course for the Nationality Acquisition Test will begin, and on January 25th, the second semester of Higher Artistic Education will commence. February will bring new beginnings for preparatory courses and Basic Computer Skills.
Regarding non-teaching periods, the Christmas holidays will run from December 22nd to January 7th. The Easter holidays are scheduled from March 22nd to March 26th. The official calendar also includes national and island-specific holidays for each island.
The conclusion of the school year will be carried out progressively, extending until June 2027, with varying end dates depending on the type of education.
