The Spanish Government has approved the 2026-2030 State Housing Plan, which will significantly increase funds for the Canary Islands, rising from 99 million to 371 million euros to boost public and affordable housing in the archipelago.

The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, highlighted the substantial increase in funding that the Canary Islands will receive through the new 2026-2030 State Housing Plan. This plan, approved on Tuesday by the Council of Ministers, represents an increase of 272 million euros compared to the previous period, 2022-2025.

"It is a constitutional right and one of the main demands and requirements of families in the Canary Islands."

The minister emphasized that funding for the archipelago will triple, with the Spanish Government contributing 60% of the funds, despite housing being an autonomous community competence. This measure aims to address one of the primary needs of Canarian families.
The 2026-2030 State Housing Plan's main objectives include the construction of public and affordable housing, the rehabilitation of the existing residential stock, and the implementation of new aid to facilitate access to rental housing and emancipation. Special attention will be given to young people and vulnerable groups, ensuring their access to decent housing.
