The ring road of the capital (GC-3) will undergo a complete closure to northbound traffic. The affected section is between the Barranco Seco and La Paterna interchanges. The closure will begin at 08:00 this Sunday and will last for 24 hours daily until approximately August 15th.
Following this intervention, the same viaduct is scheduled to be closed in the southbound direction. This second closure will affect the southbound deck and is expected to last for another 15 days, starting from August 16th.
Vehicles traveling from the south on the GC-3 will encounter the diversion at Barranco Seco. They will be rerouted via the GC-31, the road of the San José tunnels, to the Avenida Marítima and then to Julio Luengo to continue north. The southbound carriageway will remain open during this initial phase.
These works are considered essential to ensure the conservation, safety, and durability of this infrastructure, which is vital for island mobility. More than 130,000 vehicles use this road daily.
The project will provide the Guiniguada viaduct with the necessary waterproofing, a feature that both decks of the bridge have lacked since their construction. This circumstance had previously affected the stability of the internal steel tensioners of the viaduct, which were repaired a year ago.
