A councillor from the Santa María de Guía City Council has submitted his resignation from the government areas he managed, including Parks and Gardens and Street Cleaning, to take up a new job in public administration, while retaining his council seat.

The decision, motivated exclusively by professional reasons, comes after receiving a job offer in the Administration, for which he had applied before the last municipal elections. The councillor stated that “the train only passes once” and he could not miss this professional opportunity.

"The train only passes once, and I couldn't let it pass. It was not a decision for political reasons, as there have been no problems with colleagues, nor disagreements."

The councillor, who was part of Unidos por Gran Canaria (UxGC), has defended the legality of his decision to retain his seat, which will allow him to continue collaborating with the municipal government, albeit in a different capacity. From now on, he will only receive allowances for attending plenary sessions and commissions, renouncing his exclusive dedication.
The Mayor of Guía has publicly acknowledged the work carried out by the councillor during his tenure, highlighting his commitment and loyalty to the municipal project. He emphasized that, despite stepping aside from daily management, his experience and support will remain fundamental for the governing team.

"I wanted to thank him for his work as a councillor. Professionally, he has accepted a position in his profession, and I personally and the entire government group thank you for the work you have done with effort and the work you will continue to do until the end to fight for your municipality."

The resignation means that the Mayor will now have to reallocate the responsibilities that were under the councillor's charge, which included Parks and Gardens, Street Cleaning, Cemeteries and Funeral Homes, and Coastline. The councillor's continued presence in the plenary ensures the cohesion of the municipal government.
