The Operational Group for Intervention and Support-Special Unit (GOIA-UE) of the Local Police of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria arrested a taxi driver this Saturday who allegedly used his municipal license for the sale of narcotic substances.
The events occurred in the early hours of Friday to Saturday, as part of a drug control operation established in Guanarteme due to the detection of drug transactions in the area. Officers observed that on José Mesa y López avenue, an individual handed money to a taxi driver in exchange for a white packet.
The police identified the taxi driver, as he had previous arrests for similar offenses, albeit with a different vehicle and license. After letting the buyer leave, officers intercepted him and seized the substance purchased, which appeared to be powdered cocaine.
The buyer refused to make a voluntary statement at the police station, so an apprehension report was issued, and he was informed of his obligation to appear before the judicial authority. Subsequently, other Local Police units intercepted the taxi on Jesús Ferrer Jimeno street, where the driver was arrested and informed of his rights.
During the arrest, officers found a total of 262 euros distributed in various compartments within the taxi.
