ExpoDeca 2026 will dedicate a significant portion of its offerings to the practice of bodyboarding, also known as bugui. The event, taking place from November 12th to 15th at the Plaza de la Música, will include water experiences for schoolchildren and citizen groups, theoretical classes, and the participation of international and local riders. This plan will unfold in the vicinity of Las Canteras Beach, in collaboration with the Canary Islands Bodyboard Association.
The fair, promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands and organized by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, will also offer free activities in other sports such as paddle tennis, football, Nordic walking, sailing, climbing, and field hockey. The location at Las Canteras Beach, a renowned surf spot, has facilitated the inclusion of this bodyboarding program. Water sessions will be organized with schoolchildren, under the guidance of experienced riders, and introductory sessions for beginners. There will also be activities for various citizen groups and exhibitions by recognized athletes and grassroots competitors.
In addition to practical sessions, theoretical talks will be held on basic lifeguarding principles, technical fundamentals of bodyboarding, and balancing studies and sports. The origins of bodyboarding in La Cícer, considered a historic enclave for surfing in the archipelago, will also be discussed.
The Canary Islands Bodyboard Association, chaired by Manuel San Román with Miguel Soliberes coordinating the actions, has highlighted the boost ExpoDeca provides to the association and the promotion of bodyboarding on the islands, where this discipline is highly popular.
ExpoDeca aims to be a meeting point for public managers, entrepreneurs, federations, and athletes. The fair, celebrating its third edition after previous events in 2024 and 2025, seeks to promote physical activity and sports in the Canary Islands to improve the population's health and well-being.
The fair will feature an extensive exhibition of sports sector products and services in the Canary Islands, with the participation of companies, brands, and institutions. ExpoDeca will also implement a Sustainability Plan aligned with Agenda 2030, promoting responsible energy consumption, waste reduction, and sustainable mobility.
