Tejeda registered a suffocating day this Wednesday with temperatures ranging between 31 and 37.2 degrees, while Agüimes recorded the highest in the Canary Islands at 38.2 degrees, due to a warm air mass of African origin.

Tejeda experienced an infernal day this Wednesday, with nocturnal temperatures that did not drop below 31 degrees Celsius. By mid-morning, the thermometer reached 37.2 degrees in this mountain municipality, marking a daily fluctuation of just 6.2 degrees and always remaining above the 31-degree threshold.
A dry and warm air mass of African origin is causing an unusual rise in nocturnal temperatures across the archipelago. In the highlands and other areas of Gran Canaria, this translates into nights that make it difficult for the body to cool down to fall asleep.
According to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) stations, minimum temperatures of 30.0 degrees were recorded in Lomo Pedro Alfonso, 29.0 in Cuevas del Pinar, and 27.3 in Las Tirajanas. During the day, maximums reached 38.1 degrees in Lomo Pedro Afonso, 36.9 in Las Tirajanas, and 34.6 in Cuevas del Pinar.
The night was also torrid in Agüimes, with a minimum of 29.4 degrees, and in Tasarte, where the minimum temperature was 27.3 degrees. In coastal areas like Agaete (23.7 degrees) and in usually cool high-altitude areas like Valleseco (minimum of 23.8 degrees) and San Mateo (nighttime minimum of 23.3 degrees), the nights were tropical, with minimums above 20 degrees.
After several days with high temperature warnings covering most of the archipelago, this Thursday the Aemet warning is reduced to the east, south, and west of Gran Canaria, between 11:00 AM and 8:00 PM, maintaining the yellow level. The forecast indicates a drop in maximum temperatures to 34 degrees Celsius, particularly affecting areas between 600 and 900 meters, especially in the Tirajana basin.
Temperatures are expected to decrease, from slight drops on the coasts to moderate or notable decreases in inland areas, with generalized highs of 30 degrees, except in the northern coastal areas.
