International mobility in Canary Islands classrooms receives a boost with the extension until 2027 of the scholarship agreement for exchanges with France, guaranteeing funds and places.

The Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) has published a resolution extending the agreement between the Ministry of Education of the Autonomous Government and Fundación DISA for France exchange scholarships until the end of the 2026-2027 academic year. This strategic alliance maintains an economic allocation of 35,000 euros, subsidizing cultural and linguistic immersion experiences for students from public schools.
The main novelty of this extension is the absolute priority given to applications from educational centers facing greater geographical, economic, or cultural obstacles. Institutes located in rural areas or far from urban centers will have preference, aiming to democratize access to foreign language learning and compensate for the peripheral territorial conditions of the Canary Islands.
The scholarship program covers stays in four high-level French academic regions: Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Limoges, Strasbourg, and Occitanie. The objective is for Canary Islands students to live with native families and attend local classes, while French students undergo the inverse process in the archipelago.
To streamline procedures, Fundación DISA will transfer the 35,000 euros to the Teacher Training Center (CEP) of La Laguna, which will be responsible for disbursing the aid to the bank accounts of the selected students, following the guidelines from the General Directorate of Planning of the Ministry of Education.
The proven success of the pilot program, initiated in 2023, supports this extension. Technical evaluation committees confirmed the outstanding pedagogical results obtained in the 2023-2024, 2024-2025, and 2025-2026 periods, consolidating this public-private sponsorship model as a pillar of the internationalization of public education in the Canary Islands.
