The Spanish Government has announced the creation of eight new prosecutor and 33 judicial positions for the Canary Islands, as part of the largest expansion of Justice in the country, involving a significant investment.

This initiative, communicated by a spokesperson for the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes, is part of a national plan that includes the incorporation of 200 new prosecutors and 500 judges across Spain by 2026.
For the Canary Islands, the allocation of eight prosecutor positions represents a 5.8% increase in its current staff, while the 33 additional judicial positions are intended to strengthen the courts of first instance, provincial courts, and the Superior Court of Justice of the archipelago.

"The territorial distribution has been designed considering the workload and the current staffing levels in each autonomous community."

The total investment for the creation of these new prosecutor positions exceeds 22.5 million euros, aiming to improve efficiency and streamline the Public Justice Service. This expansion is made possible by the Public Justice Service Efficiency Law, which introduces a more modern organizational model and allows for the creation of judicial positions at a lower cost than the former single-judge courts.
The process for the definitive approval of the Royal Decree that will greenlight these 200 new prosecutor positions will begin shortly in the Council of Ministers.
