This initiative, driven by a prominent Canary Islands tourism company, represents an investment of over 16.4 million euros. The expansion will take place on an adjacent plot to the current building, which opened its doors in 2004 and is known for its design inspired by a Canary village.
The approval of this license comes 22 years after the initial request and will allow the company to develop the new premium rooms. This project is part of a growth context for Gran Canaria's tourism sector, which seeks to increase its accommodation capacity.
“"We maintain our competitiveness with top-quality tourism products."
The granting of this permit occurs one year after the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council approved, in May 2025, the partial plan for Meloneras 2A. This plan unlocks investments exceeding 700 million euros, which had been stalled for more than 23 years, and will enable the creation of up to 1,800 new rooms and 3,600 beds in the area.
In addition to this expansion, the same company is already developing another hotel with 533 rooms and 1,200 beds next to the Expomeloneras Congress Palace, with construction beginning in April 2025. This will be the first newly built establishment in the area in 14 years. Recently, the company also invested 80 million euros in renovating another hotel in Meloneras, upgrading its category to five stars.
