The Cabildo de La Gomera has launched the second edition of its employment insertion program, targeting individuals over 60 years old, with an investment of 3.4 million euros that will enable the hiring of 155 unemployed people.

This initiative, to be implemented across the island's six municipalities, addresses the difficulties many individuals in this age group face in rejoining the workforce. The program not only aims to create jobs but also to provide opportunities for Gomera residents who need to complete contribution periods to qualify for retirement.
The President of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, highlighted the institution's commitment to active employment policies and to those facing greater obstacles in finding work. He emphasized the experience and capabilities of these individuals to continue contributing to the Gomera society, stating that administrations must support those most in need by providing tools for their job stability and social protection.
The program will be executed in coordination with the island's town councils. Hires will be distributed to address needs in improving public spaces, maintaining municipal infrastructure, and conditioning green areas and pathways. This cooperation ensures resources reach the entire island and that municipalities receive human resources for actions that directly enhance residents' quality of life.
This initiative is part of a broader plan to promote employment in La Gomera. The insular Corporation is also promoting programs this year for recent graduates and for biodiversity improvement, aiming to facilitate first work experiences and the incorporation of more citizens into the labor market.
This week, President Curbelo, along with Councilor Cristina Ventura and insular director Gregorio Medina, will visit all municipalities to present the program's work lines.
