The municipality of Los Llanos de Aridane is preparing to commemorate the 95th anniversary of the proclamation of the Second Spanish Republic with an event scheduled for April 14 in Francisco Rodríguez Betancor Square.

The gathering, set for 7:00 PM, will take place in a historically significant location, Francisco Rodríguez Betancor Square, situated on Montaña Tenisca. This site honors Francisco Rodríguez Betancor, a former socialist mayor of Los Llanos de Aridane, whose life was tragically cut short after Franco's coup d'état.
This annual event will feature a moving floral offering and the reading of a manifesto. The aim is to remember and reaffirm the principles of liberty, social justice, and democracy that characterized the Second Republic.

It will also be a moment of reflection and recognition for all those repressed, like Francisco Rodríguez Betancor, whose lives were cut short for defending democratic legality and fundamental rights.

Beyond a mere tribute, this gathering seeks to be an act of living memory, a space to renew commitment to democratic values and to keep alive the legacy of those who fought for a more just society. In this symbolic place, citizens are invited to participate in a collective gesture of respect, remembrance, and dignity.
The event is a joint initiative of various progressive organizations, including the PSOE, Izquierda Unida, Nueva Canarias, Podemos Canarias, and Comisiones Obreras. These entities extend an invitation to the entire population to join this act, where memory transforms into the present and a firm commitment to the future.
