Under the banner Road to Womex, Parque Doramas transforms into a multicultural dance stage with performances by Malian singer-songwriter Virginie Dembelé and the duo Lula Mora. This free concert, held in early August, anticipates WOMEX Gran Canaria 2026, the international world music fair scheduled for October 21-25 in the city.
Virginie Dembelé, a recent winner of Casa África's Mali Vis A Vis international competition, delivers a powerful live performance rooted in Tindoro, a traditional rhythm of the Bwa people, which dialogues with roots blues. The artist describes her shows as "a moment of union between diverse cultures where there is much, much dancing."
Dembelé's work emphasizes female leadership, identity, and social transformation. She uses a self-designed instrument, blending the sounds of the guitar and the n'goni, which she brought to the island. Her performance also features the balafon, a West African percussion instrument recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Meanwhile, Lula Mora, a duo formed in December 2022 by Sara Caride and Silvia Izquierdo in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, combines music and poetry in Galician and Spanish. Accompanied by guitar, ukulele, double bass, and keyboard, their lyrics explore themes of encounter, hope, and sisterhood, presenting their repertoire as "a journey of emigration."
