Basketball coach and analyst Óscar Garrido will present his book 'The New Architecture of Basketball' on June 18th at the Gran Canaria Nautical Club, accompanied by legend Carmelo Cabrera.

Basketball expert Óscar Garrido, known for his career as a coach, analyst, scout, and consultant for professional clubs worldwide, has recently published 'The New Architecture of Basketball'. In this work, Garrido explores the construction of the modern game, merging data, intuition, and strategy to improve decision-making in sports, an approach also applicable to business management and life.
The official book presentation will take place at the Salón Dámaso of the Gran Canaria Nautical Club on June 18th at 7:00 PM. Garrido will be joined by Carmelo Cabrera, an emblematic basketball figure, with whom he will discuss the book's key themes and the evolution of the sport.
Garrido, whose experience is based on over twenty international projects, emphasizes the importance of data as a counterpoint to human intuition. "Our brain does not observe reality in a neutral way," he explains, highlighting how data helps question beliefs and confirm or correct experience, opening new questions and deepening the understanding of the game.

"We often confuse the result with the process."

Óscar Garrido · Author of 'The New Architecture of Basketball'
The author warns against the tendency to confuse immediate results with the quality of the process, a common mistake in both sports and life. He points out that a single victory or a good outcome can mask poor decisions or deficient planning, and that the current culture, obsessed with immediacy, often prevents deeper, long-term evaluation. The book aims to offer a more complete perspective, reminding readers that "the scoreboard informs, but does not always explain."
Garrido considers Carmelo Cabrera's presence at the presentation an "absolute luxury." He highlights the opportunity to foster a continuous dialogue, akin to the essence of basketball, where the experience of legends like Cabrera is complemented by the new analytical tools offered by data, enabling players and professionals to evolve more effectively.
