The Government of Canarias has released a detailed guide for accessing rental aid in 2026, backed by an investment of 197.5 million euros, aiming to ease the financial burden on families and young people facing rising rents.

The housing situation in the Canarian Archipelago has reached a critical juncture, with constantly increasing rents and a shrinking supply. In this context, the guide for applying for rental aid in Canarias 2026 becomes an essential tool for thousands of residents.
This year, the regional Government, through the Canarian Housing Institute, has allocated a historic sum of 197.5 million euros. The primary objective is to alleviate the economic pressure faced by Canarian families and youth due to the high cost of housing.

The general aid is designed to cover up to 50% of the monthly rent, with a maximum limit of 6,500 euros annually per beneficiary.

To ensure the approval of the application, it is crucial to meet the requirements established by the administration. These include being of legal age, having legal residency in Spain, proving that the property is the habitual and permanent residence through a registration certificate, and being the leaseholder. Additionally, the income of the cohabitation unit must not exceed, as a general rule, three times the IPREM, although higher thresholds exist for large families or people with disabilities.
One of the most frequent inquiries concerns the Youth Rental Voucher, a program aimed at individuals under 35 years old, offering a fixed aid of 250 euros per month for two consecutive years. To qualify for this voucher, the rent for the entire dwelling must not exceed 600 euros per month, or 300 euros if it is a single room. However, the autonomous Executive has made exceptions for municipalities with “stressed markets,” where the rent limit may be higher due to high demand.
The processing of these aids is carried out exclusively online through the electronic headquarters of the Government of Canarias. Applicants must have a digital identification system (Digital Certificate, electronic DNI, or Cl@ve system), fill out the application form with the details of all cohabitants, and attach the required documentation, such as the rental agreement, registration certificate, and income statements. It is essential to have bank payment receipts for the last few months ready, as they are the definitive proof for the subsidy to be granted. With an additional reinforcement of 26 million euros this year, the aim is for the aid to cover not only conventional rent but also rural repopulation programs and home purchases for young people.
