The Canary Islands closed June with 142,409 unemployed individuals, representing a 1.51% decrease compared to the previous month, with 2,189 fewer jobless people. This result is attributed to the net creation of 960 jobs, reflected in an increase in Social Security affiliates, and a reduction of 1,229 people from the official list of job seekers.
In year-on-year terms, unemployment in the Canary Islands also saw a 5.50% drop, translating to a reduction of 8,295 unemployed individuals compared to June 2025.
By province, Las Palmas registered 73,550 unemployed in June, 898 fewer than the previous month (a 1.21% decrease), and 5,203 fewer than a year ago (a 6.61% decrease). Santa Cruz de Tenerife recorded 68,859 unemployed, 1,291 fewer than in May (a 1.84% monthly drop) and 3,092 fewer than in June 2025 (a 4.30% decrease).
Of the total unemployed in June, 60,273 were men and 82,136 were women. Those under 25 years old numbered 7,266, while other age groups comprised 135,143 people. By sectors, agriculture accounted for 2,243 unemployed, industry for 5,224, construction for 11,460, services for 112,757, and 10,725 individuals belonged to the group of those who had never worked before.
Social Security affiliation in the Canary Islands improved in June with 960 new affiliates, reaching a total of 964,031 contributors, although still below the historical record of December 2025. Over the past year, the Canary Islands have added 26,704 affiliates, a 2.85% increase.
In the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, monthly affiliation decreased by 667 people (0.14% less), but increased year-on-year by 12,110 contributors (2.70%). Las Palmas, on the other hand, recorded 1,626 more affiliates in June compared to May (a 0.32% rise) and 14,594 more compared to June 2025 (a 2.98% growth).
Youth unemployment in the Canary Islands reached its lowest historical record in June, with a 5.86% monthly decrease and a 4.39% year-on-year drop. It stood at 7,266 individuals registered as unemployed, 452 fewer than the previous month.
