The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts a moderate temperature increase across much of the archipelago, with notable values in mid-altitude areas, particularly in the eastern islands and northern Tenerife. A pre-alert for high temperatures remains active in Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura.
The highest temperatures are expected in the Eastern Islands. In Gran Canaria, highs of 34 ºC are predicted for the southeast, south, and southwest slopes, with the possibility of local readings reaching 37 ºC, and minimums that may not drop below 26 ºC. In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, forecasts point to general temperatures of 30 ºC, with peaks of 34 ºC inland and in the south, and up to 37 ºC in specific locations.
In Tenerife, low cloud intervals are expected in the north and high clouds elsewhere. The main novelty is concentrated in the Cañadas del Teide, where developing clouds could bring occasional showers accompanied by storms in the afternoon. Dust haze will be present, particularly affecting mid-altitude and higher areas.
Temperatures in Tenerife will reach 34 ºC in mid-altitude areas of the south and the metropolitan area, while Santa Cruz de Tenerife will register between 24 and 32 ºC. Dust haze will also be noticeable in La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro, with highs up to 34 ºC in mid-altitude areas of La Gomera and around 30 ºC on the other two islands.
Due to the temperature increase and dry conditions, the Government of the Canary Islands has activated a forest fire risk alert in Tenerife and Gran Canaria since 08:00 this Wednesday. The alert in Gran Canaria affects areas above 400 meters, while in Tenerife it is island-wide. El Hierro, La Gomera, and La Palma remain on pre-alert.
Emergencies warns of a combination of warm, dry air, relative humidity below 30% above the thermal inversion, and easterly winds in mid-altitude areas, factors that increase the risk. This episode is expected to continue through Thursday, with a more significant temperature rise in Tenerife and the Western Islands.
