The Canary Islands Government's Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy has made available to citizens the digital map of the Canary Climate Refuge Network, developed with GRAFCAN, to locate spaces offering protection against extreme heat episodes.

The tool, accessible via the IDECanarias viewer, allows users to consult the characteristics and services of each of the 44 spaces initially incorporated into the network, from twelve municipalities and hotel establishments. The network is designed for continuous growth, with more municipalities and entities joining progressively.
Minister Mariano H. Zapata highlighted that the viewer transforms the technical work carried out into a useful and accessible tool for the public, enabling easy identification of available spaces and their conditions during heatwaves. He emphasized that climate change adaptation requires facilitating information for decision-making and public protection.
Vice-Minister Julieta Schallenberg underscored the regional collaboration with municipalities and public and private entities to advance climate change adaptation, offering information in an organized and accessible manner.
In this initial phase, municipalities such as Santa Cruz de La Palma, Los Llanos de Aridane, Gáldar, and Santa Lucía de Tirajana have joined, among others. Hotel establishments like the Hotel Tigaiga and Radisson Tenerife have also been added through an agreement with Ashotel.
Users can check opening hours, accessibility, drinking water services, and rest areas for each space. Technical criteria for indoor spaces include free access, universal accessibility, drinking water, restrooms, and adequate thermal comfort. Outdoor spaces must have universal accessibility and shaded rest areas, along with categories for micro-refuges and green corners.
