The Directorate General for Relations with the Justice Administration has installed new forensic documentation equipment, named ÓCULA, in Lanzarote, Tenerife, and La Palma, aiming to protect victims of sexual violence and ensure evidence quality.

The Ministry of Presidency, Public Administrations, Justice, and Security, through the Directorate General for Relations with the Justice Administration, has completed the installation of this new equipment on the islands of Lanzarote, Tenerife, and La Palma. Medical and Forensic Sciences (IMLCF) personnel must complete their training before its operational launch.
The ÓCULA systems, developed with the advice of the IMLCF, have been located in hospitals to conduct forensic medical examinations for victims of sexual violence. The first units were deployed at the Casa de la Infancia in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Hospital Materno Insular.
The equipment includes an innovative optical-digital system, unique in Spain, designed to record and manage audiovisual forensic evidence in cases of violence and crimes against sexual liberty, for both children, adolescents, and adults. It allows for the clinical-forensic examination and the capture of high-resolution images and video in a single session.
All information is stored using advanced encryption and digital fingerprinting, guaranteeing the integrity, authenticity, and chain of custody of the evidence. Its technical configuration is oriented towards preserving the victim's privacy and dignity, avoiding repeated examinations, and providing the Justice Administration with clear, verifiable probative material.
The system integrates an ergonomic and multifunctional chair that adapts to the different phases of the procedure—from taking statements to the physical and gynecological examination—providing comfort and security to the victim while facilitating the work of healthcare personnel.
