The festivities in Antigua, dedicated to Nuestra Señora de la Antigua, are reaching their peak days, offering a program designed for all audiences and attracting a significant number of residents and tourists. The mayor of Antigua, Juan Cabrera, and the Councilor for Festivities, Lucila Ruiz, shared details of the events already held and those yet to come during an appearance on Radio Sintonía. Both highlighted the positive reception of the opening speech by Isidoro Sánchez and the fellowship meal, which gathered over 600 attendees.
Lucila Ruiz also emphasized the involvement of the youngest participants in the children's Escala en Hifi, an event organized by the festival committee where children have been preparing their performances for weeks.
Among the upcoming highlights are the Encuentro de Solistas (Soloists' Meeting), the Gincana de los Pueblos (Village Scavenger Hunt), and the pilgrimage scheduled for Sunday, September 6, which will feature the joint participation of all five folklore groups from Antigua. The automotive sector will also have a presence with the traditional Rally de Antigua.
Municipal officials encouraged all residents of Fuerteventura to visit Antigua and enjoy the events, specifically mentioning the free concert by Ráfaga and the activities planned until the main day of the festivities, September 8.
Regarding the waste management issue, Juan Cabrera acknowledged difficulties in collection and apologized to the residents. The mayor assured that the situation is being resolved, with a reinforcement of the service and the incorporation of new resources to restore normality in the coming days.
