The data, presented after workshops in Puerto del Rosario, shows the Cabildo de Fuerteventura with a score of 9.28. However, the island's municipalities recorded the lowest average in the Canary Islands, slightly above 6.
In this context, Puerto del Rosario was the only municipality on the island to achieve a high distinction, with 8.51. In contrast, Betancuria was the only non-compliant municipality in the entire archipelago, failing to submit to the evaluation, although its limited resources were noted. The municipality of Antigua also failed with a score of 3.45.
The remaining three municipalities obtained modest scores: Pájara with 6.33 points, Tuineje with 6.06, and La Oliva with 5.77 points.
“"With the exception of the island and capital administrations, the results in the Majorera island are clearly improvable. Providing public information to citizens is a mandatory requirement."
Regarding the right to access public information, during 2025, 35 complaints were registered in Fuerteventura, 29 of which were due to administrative silence and 6 after express resolution. The main weakness identified is the lack of timely responses from administrations.
By administration, Puerto del Rosario accounted for 10 complaints, followed by Betancuria with 6, while La Oliva and Tuineje registered 5 each. These figures highlight the persistent impact of administrative silence on the effective exercise of the right to information on the island.
The 2024 evaluation also included 41 private entities in Fuerteventura that receive public funds. Of these, 15 fail to comply with their transparency obligations, 2 achieved the maximum score, and 3 failed.
These evaluations were presented after training sessions organized by the Canarian Transparency Commissioner in collaboration with FECAM, aimed at public officials and technical staff. However, the absence of public officials at the event was noted.
