The construction of the new waterfall in the town center of Firgas is about to begin. The median of Leopoldo Matos Avenue, where this new water feature with tourist appeal will be located, has already been fenced off and the necessary safety perimeters established for the start of work. The company Hormigones Ornamentales Canarios will be responsible for carrying out the project, which has an estimated duration of five months and a budget of 93,395 euros.
The mayor of the town, Alexis Henríquez, has confirmed that necessary arrangements are being made with Endesa to secure the area's wiring and prevent damage when removing palm trees and breaking the sidewalk. Once this review is complete, the contracting entity will proceed with the demolition work.
Regarding the elimination of parking spaces in this area of Firgas, the mayor has indicated that the municipality has several parking alternatives, including the municipal parking lot, the area in front of the Firgas Health Center, and the vicinity of the taxi stand.
Henríquez acknowledges that these types of public works may cause neighborhood inconvenience, especially in residential areas, but considers them necessary for the beautification of the municipality's nerve center.
The project plans to transform the median of Leopoldo Matos Avenue into a linear ornamental waterfall, conceived as a landscape and urban integration element. It will be structured by 28 staggered trays arranged in a descending continuity, with a total elevation difference of 11 meters between the upper point of the waterfall and the lower collection cistern.
In parallel, Mayor Alexis Henríquez has confirmed the start of rehabilitation works for the House of Culture, an emblematic building from 1872. The project, with a budget of 844,420 euros financed by the Cabildo within the Additional Plan for Municipal Investments (PAI 2024), aims to modernize the building's main public use spaces, improve finishes, installations, and equipment.
