The interurban transport company of Gran Canaria, Global, has presented its special operation for the Patron Saint Festivals of Gran Canaria in honor of the Virgen del Pino. A fleet of over 200 vehicles will be activated, and most of the staff will be mobilized, with the aim of transporting 65,000 travelers on the main days of the festivity, making approximately 2,600 trips between Teror and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
During the night of El Pino, continuous service is planned with bus departures every 2 minutes. The promotional campaign 'El Pino, siempre' has been launched, featuring an emotional video that will circulate on social media. The deputy general director of Global, Saulo Castro, the mayor of Teror, José Agustín Arencibia, the insular director of Transport of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Manuel López, and the Councilor for Mobility of the Teror City Council, Laura Quintana, presented the operation at the Teror Tourist Center.
The operation, which has already designed 52 editions, guarantees direct transport to Teror from practically all municipalities on the island. A new feature this year is that on September 7th, the Teror Station will close at 11:00 AM, instead of midday as in previous years, with bus departures being moved to Avenida del Cabildo, in accordance with the Security Plan.
The most critical moment of the operation is expected after the midnight fireworks on September 7th. 200 buses will be ready in Teror, capable of dispatching one bus every two minutes and serving 3,000 people per hour. Following last year's record of 71,612 travelers, and given that the eve of the festival falls on a Monday this year, an attendance of around 65,000 people is anticipated.
The mayor of Teror, José Agustín Arencibia García, thanked Global for its annual effort in facilitating the transfer of thousands of people to Teror during the El Pino days and recalled that he will receive the Golden Insignia of the Teror City Council on September 17th. He also urged the use of public transport, stating, "In Teror, there is not enough parking during these days, so public transport is the best option."
Most municipalities in Gran Canaria will be connected to Teror via direct services or transfers. Direct connections will be from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (San Telmo and Tamaraceite), Gáldar, Guía, Moya, Firgas, and Arucas. From the center, direct connections will be from Valleseco, San Mateo, Santa Brígida, and Valsequillo. From the south, connections will be from Telde, Carrizal, Cruce de Arinaga, Vecindario, and Doctoral.
The Teror Bus Station will be out of service between 11:00 AM on Monday the 7th and 8:00 AM on Wednesday, September 9th. During this period, departure platforms will be set up according to the destination locality. At the Avenida del Cabildo, passengers heading to San Telmo, Tamaraceite, Arucas, Firgas, Moya, Guía, and Gáldar will be picked up. In the Barrio de Los Llanos, departure platforms for San Mateo, Santa Brígida, Valsequillo, and Telde will be established. The Valleseco line will depart from the Castaño plot in Los Llanos.
Holders of Wawa Joven, Bono Residente, Bono Oro, and TransGC cards can travel without going to the ticket office. For those without these cards, special round-trip tickets will be issued.
On September 7th and 8th, the GC-21 road (Tamaraceite-Teror) will be one-way towards Teror, and the GC-43 road (Teror – Arucas) will be one-way downhill towards Arucas. Between 3:00 PM on the 7th and 2:00 AM on the 8th, the GC-21 will be completely closed to traffic, with arrivals to Teror rerouted via Arucas to Cruz de Firgas, continuing through Los Chorros to La Laguna, and then to Teror.
To ensure the safety of the operation, Global will have a private security service comprising 40 agents and 60 auxiliaries, who will join the State Security Forces and Corps and the Local Police.
On Sunday, September 13th (Festivity of Las Marías), all regular and extraordinary lines will operate from the Teror Station. Special services for this day will begin at 6:00 AM and end at 12:00 AM (midnight), with direct buses departing from Teror to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Tamaraceite, Arucas, Telde, Valleseco, and San Mateo.
