The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has set a temperature threshold that will reach 37 degrees in specific parts of the island. The areas at highest thermal risk include the Tejeda basin, as well as the mid-altitude areas facing south, west, and southeast.
This weather phenomenon will not affect the entire territory equally. While inland areas and mid-altitudes will experience the temperature rise, the northern coasts will remain cooler due to the influence of trade winds and low cloud cover during the early and late hours of the day.
In addition to high daytime temperatures, Aemet warns about persistent heat during the night. In the most affected areas of Gran Canaria, minimum temperatures will not drop below 26 or 27 degrees, leading to an especially warm night.
The sky will be mostly clear, although light haze is expected at altitude, a factor that will contribute to increased humidity and heat sensation in inland areas. The wind will blow from the north with moderate intensity, with strong gusts expected at the eastern and western ends of the island.
