The coastal neighborhood of Telde is celebrating the Melenara Festivals 2026, starting Friday, August 21st, and running until Sunday, August 30th. The program features a variety of events combining music, seafaring tradition, children's activities, and religious services, bringing together residents and visitors for one of the anticipated summer events in Gran Canaria.
The festive calendar will begin with an announcement parade and a proclamation, concluding ten days later. Each day will offer diverse activities, notably the Great Pilgrimage (Gran Romería), the traditional land and sea procession, nightly parties (verbenas), concerts, a popular barbecue, and a fireworks display.
On Friday, August 21st, the festivities commence at 18:00 with the announcement parade, followed by the proclamation by Candelaria Torres at 21:00. The night will continue with a performance by Los Salaitos and a party with Furia Joven at midnight.
Saturday, August 22nd, will be the day of the Great Pilgrimage at 18:00, and religious events will also begin with a mass at 19:30. In the evening, the party will be enlivened by Luz de Luna and Los Peques.
Sunday, August 23rd, will be dedicated to seafaring and popular traditions, featuring the traditional 'chinchorro' (a type of fishing activity) on the beach at 10:00, followed by a popular barbecue at 14:00. The day will include the election of the king and queen, and performances by Cris Giannattasio and Mujeres D.
The week from August 24th to 27th will offer flamenco, children's activities on Tuesday the 25th with Children's Day, serenades for the sick on Wednesday the 26th, and salsa classes and concerts on Thursday the 27th with El Último que Cierre and Los 600.
Friday, August 28th, will host the 'A Time to Remember' (Una época para recordar) day, dedicated to the elderly, featuring a charity bingo, a snack, and a tribute to Los Rayos de Plata, with attendees encouraged to dress in period clothing.
The last Saturday, August 29th, will host the 1st Memorial Antonio Peñate and, in the evening, a party with Star Music, a fireworks display, and concerts by Calle Bungalows and Grupo Mallombe.
The festivals will conclude on Sunday, August 30th, with a mass for the deceased at 17:00, followed by the land and sea procession with the Santo Cura de Ars. The trophy presentation and the 'Scala-hifi' for married women will mark the end of the celebrations.
