The Red Mantle, crafted by embroiderer Francisco Herrera, was made with fabric from the Valencian factory Garín. It uses a natural silk warp of 4,800 threads and a silk weft with silver metal, known as 'guinda', hand-woven on a wooden loom.
This new vestment was first used on September 4th, 2002, and was debuted the following day during the Bajada of the Virgen del Pino. Its creation was prompted by the need to replace the previous mantle of the same color, which had been damaged by the passage of time.
The mantle being replaced was the famous crimson mantle that Néstor Álamo immortalized in one of his songs dedicated to the Virgin, '¡Ay, Teror!'. The image of the Virgen del Pino first wore that mantle on August 28th, 1767, coinciding with the inauguration of the current temple.
