The 2026 Teror Pino Festivals will run from August 23 to September 26, with their main events concentrated in the first half of September. The schedule includes the 74th traditional pilgrimage-offering on Monday, September 7, the 34th Gran Canaria Folk Festival on September 6, and the 37th Teresa de Bolívar Popular Music Encounter on September 11 and 12. The image of the Virgen del Pino will be brought down from its shrine on September 5 and returned on September 20.
The main representatives of the Cabildo and the Ayuntamiento de Teror, Antonio Morales and José Agustín Arencibia respectively, presented the program of events honoring the Patron Saint of the Diocese of Canarias. These festivities, which combine 'heritage, faith, and roots,' are newly declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest this year.
One of the notable novelties highlighted by the Cabildo's Minister of Culture, Guacimara Medina, is the return of participation from all eight islands in the Folk Festival, which will be held in Sintes square and pay tribute to the veteran journalist Antonio Betancor. Groups from El Hierro, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, La Gomera, La Palma, Lanzarote, Tenerife, and La Graciosa will perform.
The Teresa de Bolívar Popular Music Encounter will feature artists from the Canary Islands, Colombia, Mexico, and Spain. The lineup notably includes Mexican artist Lila Downs, as well as Joaquín Sánchez and Adán Moreno (Sonidos Migrantes), Colombian-Irish singer-songwriter Katie James, and the Canarian quartet ContraVentura.
The timple (Canarian guitar) pilgrimage will return for its second edition, aiming to surpass the more than 300 instrumentalists gathered last year. Teror's Councilor for Culture, Angharad Quintana, announced the opening speech by Dr. Luis Peña on August 28, the Festival of Street Art (August 28-30), and concerts by Seguridad Social (September 8), Pinito Fest (September 4), and Nena Daconte (September 5).
The Government Delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, stated that approximately 300 personnel from state security forces and bodies (Civil Guard and National Police), along with local police and the Canary Islands Police, will be involved in the security operation. Pestana urged pilgrims to avoid actions that could cause forest fires and to refrain from leaving waste on the path to Teror.
The parish priest of Teror, Jorge Martín de la Coba, emphasized the affection of the people of Gran Canaria for the Virgen del Pino, regardless of belief, and advised that there is no need to rush to visit Teror, especially during the main festival days. The image's return to its shrine is scheduled for Sunday, September 20.
