The event took place this Tuesday, August 11, where the Teror City Council, along with the Councilor for Solidarity, Irene Ortega, and municipal representatives, delivered the gifts provided by the municipal company Aguas de Teror Educa. The minors will be able to take these gifts to Tinduf upon their return on September 2.
The mayor of Teror, José Agustín Arencibia, conveyed a message of support and solidarity to the children and their host families. The event was attended by the Sahrawi delegate for Canarias, Alisalem Sidi, and the coordinator of the ‘Vacaciones en Paz’ project for the Northern region, Lucía Oliva, along with the host families.
Lucía Oliva and Alisalem Sidi expressed their gratitude to the Consistory for its continued collaboration, which has facilitated the children's transfer for three decades. The mayor, for his part, thanked the host families, highlighting the work of Ana Rosa, the most veteran host mother, and encouraged them to continue this solidarity initiative. Teror is consolidating itself as one of the municipalities with the highest number of host families on the island, with a total of 9.
In the northern region (which includes Guía, Firgas, Arucas, and Teror), 19 children arrived on July 18. A total of 59 minors arrived in Gran Canaria. The 119 children who have arrived in the archipelago with this project will spend two months sharing a peaceful summer, receiving a home and medical check-ups.
Teror has participated in this solidarity program for over 30 years, supporting the initiative through the municipal contribution allocated to the Development Aid Plan for impoverished countries, via a collaboration agreement with the Association “Amigos Canarios de Solidaridad con el Pueblo Saharaui”.
