The Single Transport Authority of Gran Canaria has completed the rehabilitation of the main bus stop in San Mateo, an undertaking that involved an investment of 831,452 euros to modernize this essential infrastructure.

The completed works have addressed the widespread deterioration of the structure, particularly its roof and the road surface area. The intervention has transformed the stop into a central public transport hub, ensuring a safer and more functional service for the municipality's residents.
Among the implemented improvements, the reorganization of pedestrian access and exits stands out, optimizing circulation and user safety. Additionally, the pedestrian platform has been enhanced, and a new, larger roof has been installed, along with a complete redesign of waiting areas to provide better protection against adverse weather conditions.
The road surface pavement has been entirely rehabilitated. This involved excavating to a depth of 1.5 meters, creating a leveled area with selected soil, and laying new layers of asphalt concrete to prevent the deterioration and potholes that previously affected the asphalt.
Finally, the lighting system has been completely renewed, and the drivers' lounge has been expanded and modernized. This lounge now features separate restrooms for men and women, an office area, and a technical room equipped to house telecommunications systems such as video surveillance, passenger information, and access control.

"With the improvements, travelers will receive permanent information, and the main stop now has 24-hour video surveillance and new lighting."

Teodoro Sosa · Councillor for Sustainable Mobility of the Cabildo
The Councillor for Sustainable Mobility of the Cabildo, Teodoro Sosa, and the Mayor, Davinia Falcón, were responsible for inaugurating the renovated stop. Approximately one thousand users pass through this infrastructure daily, utilizing the eight interurban lines that connect San Mateo with towns such as Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Brígida, Tejeda, Telde, Teror, and Valsequillo, as well as the peripheral neighborhoods of the municipality.

"Residents demanded its opening due to the inconvenience of having to go a little further to catch public transport."

Davinia Falcón · Mayor of San Mateo
Mayor Falcón also announced that the City Council will sign the replotting act for the future taxi stand in the area, which will be located just behind the main bus stop, thus complementing the transport options in the area.
