The Single Transport Authority of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria has inaugurated the renovated preferred bus stop in San Mateo, transforming it into a "safe and functional central public transport hub" after an investment of 831,452 euros.

The station's rehabilitation, which now serves over a thousand daily users and eight interurban lines, was presented by Teodoro Sosa, Counselor of Presidency and Sustainable Mobility of the Island Government, and Davinia Falcón, Mayor of San Mateo. This improvement facilitates the municipality's connection with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Brígida, Tejeda, Telde, Teror, and Valsequillo, as well as the peripheral neighborhoods.
The works, carried out by the contractor Félix Santiago Melián SL, focused on repairing the general deterioration of the structure, especially the roof and the roadway area. Protection against adverse weather conditions was optimized with a new, larger roof and redesigned waiting areas for travelers.
The roadway pavement was completely rehabilitated, including a 1.5-meter deep excavation and the application of new asphalt layers to prevent future potholes. Additionally, the lighting system was renewed, and the drivers' room was expanded, incorporating separate restrooms for men and women, an office area, and a technical room for telecommunication systems such as video surveillance and passenger information.

"Today we are celebrating the completion of one of the most important investments the Cabildo de Gran Canaria will make in Vega de San Mateo. This is an investment of over 830,000 euros that the Single Transport Authority, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, is putting at the service of the citizens of San Mateo and all the neighborhoods of this municipality, as well as neighboring municipalities."

Mayor Davinia Falcón highlighted the importance of this infrastructure for San Mateo residents and visitors, noting that the community had demanded this improvement. She also announced that the City Council will sign the replanting act for a new taxi stand on Thursday, which will be located directly behind the bus station, thus creating a comprehensive mobility zone in the town center.
